Imaginarium Singapore 2016

Aug26,2016

I feel there is always something interesting for kids to learn and enjoy at Singapore Art Museum (SAM 8Q). We were invited to Imaginarium 2016:  Over the Ocean, Under the Sea; which is a whimsical introduction to the many stories and ideas that surround seascapes. Kids were amazed to see the interactive works which also encourages discovery through exploration and play.

Dimana Mogus ? (Where is Mogus?)

Imaginarium 2016

The Mogus, an imaginary octopus monster, is artist Mulyana’s alter ego. Mixed media installation with new yarn, cotton, felt, synthetic, fur, vulcanised copper wire and new dacron filing. Kids can experience, feel and play here.

Underwater Labyrinth

Guess what it is made of ?  You can resist it when standing next to this beautiful creation which is made of isomalt and chocolate.

Sparkling in the day and luminescent at night, artist-chef Janice’s Wong Underwater Labyrinth features compact colonies of corals composed of approx. 1,100 Kilos of isomalt sugar and 200 kilos of chocolate.

Imaginarium

This installation of confectionery is inspired by the “rainforest of the sea”; chocolate moss and marshmallows rest on beds of vibrantly stained corals.

Plastic Ocean

You know what happens when we heedlessly throw away that much garbage? 269,000 tons of plastic debris floats on the surface of our world’s oceans, creating hazardous living environments for marine life. Installation with plastic, nylon string, reflective vinyl, wooden pedestals. Done by artist-illustrator Tan Zi Xi and is made from more than 14,000 pieces of discarded plastic.

ImaginariumA

Kids enjoyed this gigantic helium balloon or ADA which has spikes on it. Every session only 8 kids were allowed inside and this balloon will move inside the room making sketch markings on the walls and ceilings. Please be prepared to get that charcoal prints on kids hand and clothes, as few kids didn’t like it.

Damien, I’m Famished

  1. That’s an awesome place! The kids won’t just have fun it will also exercise their minds! I love that aside from the artworks with different materials, there’s also a chance for the kids to do their own crafts!
