3 Questions to ask in Parent Teacher Meeting

May26,2016

The Parent-Teacher meeting  (PTM) is actually a very useful time for parents to interact and build a confidence with the teacher. When our children are young, we know that there would not be many surprises waiting for us but as they grow and focus is more on the studies and examination, there are quite a few updates from the school teachers. Just 3 questions to ask in parent teacher meeting for a fruitful and simple meeting.PTM

As a parent, we know our children better than anyone and we know what their strengths and weaknesses are and the things they enjoy more than others but many a time it happens that teachers have a different perspective than the parents and we might not agree on a few points.

I and my husband have a rule which we have been following since Aayan’s Kindergarten days, to ask just 3 questions and to keep parent- teacher meeting simple and fruitful. Read here our 1st PTM

3 good things and 3 things to improve upon

Let teacher tell you about your child’s overall performance in the school first and later keep your point of view. Teachers appreciate it when parents are active and interested in their children, not just go in and nod their head.

3 Questions to ask in Parent Teacher Meeting

  • What are the 3 positive things about your child?

As a parent,  we both believe that if our kids are doing good then what should be our next level to mould and encourage them to boost their confidence level. There will be many qualities our kids possess which are beneficial for their overall personality development too.

  • What are the 3 points where he/she needs improvement?

Always ask the teacher about the areas which needs improvement as it will help our kids to improve on the areas they are lacking. Do ask the teacher for the instances or examples, as many times parents point of view is different from that of a teacher. In the end, it is in the welfare of our child.

  • What are the 3 points he/she has done better than before?

Do ask this point as it really helps parents, teacher and child in knowing that how much efforts he/she has put in from the last time.

All these points may sound like a corporate review but it has been really helpful to us from last 5 years and after every PTM, we exactly get the answers what we have in our mind. It makes the conversation much more structured and easier for both parents and teacher.

Do end your parent teacher meeting on a positive note as teachers are also there to help you and your child.

Let us know if you have more ideas for us to add on to help other parents as well. We are following these points from a long time and it works well for us.
