Canon Food styling & Christmas party

Jan22,2016
Christmas season is the best time to enjoy the time with family and have attended some great get together. To add more fun and joy to it, we were invited by Canon Singapore to their newly setup office and training centre at Galaxis, One North.

                                             Welcome to Canon Imaging academy!
Even though it was on a weekday evening but everyone still made it and enjoyed. We had started with a quick tour of Canon Imaging Academy and are you eyes rolling to camera in the background like me.
Do you want to have a glimpse of their photo studio?
We got to know that apart from attending the classes (photo clicking and video), if you are keen in     photography or you are a photographer you can actually rent their Studio at the Canon office for just   $25 per hour.
Well! I tried to squeeze all the photos displayed into one frame as they were really beautiful and        full of colours. My photo is not doing justice to it.
We moved to another level in the office where we met Nugene Chiang, Canon resident instructor who has shared the wonderful tips of styling our food and capturing them with the right settings. Initially, we had a session where he has displayed some of his work slides to gave us an idea how to make food look appealing.
To give us a hands on experience we had a series of Canon camera on display to try them that evening.
We had a scrumptious buffet waiting for us and rather it was more killing as a food blogger when you know you can’t eat it without getting a right click..!!
Nugene demonstrated some practical tips of clicking the food.
–  At Buffet don’t click the whole thing on table, try to focus on best few.
–  Always click under the best natural light or if in evening use your phone light to enhance the natural light while clicking a photo.
–  Add garnishing to enhance it
–  Always try to click one or two closer photos
– You can use oil for glazing and extra shine on your food.
**This is clicked from my own Canon camera.
I tried my hands on Canon EOS 1200D that day to see how much I can explore using it. Some of the shots I have tried with same food different angle.
Just place a couple of pieces on your plate as colour is so beautiful and I have placed a piece of pineapple on it to use as a garnish.
Yummy salad – I tried clicking it on my plate but it was not looking nice as it looks in a big bowl but taste heavenly.

In this fruit platter, I feel strawberries are the best to give most vibrant feel.

Since it was a Christmas gathering, how can we forget the Christmas log cake.My share of cake with some props.

While we were busy learning the skills, kids were enjoying their Christmas decoration.

Our very own personalized photo frames for Christmas – all handmade! Good job daddy and kids.

Masterpiece!

My little model for the day!

Don’t get confused with the food photos not my work!

Thanks Canon team for inviting us and we got to learn many more new tips. Aayan & Kaira wants to say “Thank You” to all friends from whom they have received the Christmas present.

  4. It's really nice to attend seminars/conference/training about foodtogtaphy. BTW, we called FOOD STYLING or FOOD PICTURES as FOODTOGRAPHY. An art wherein you learn how to get nice angle in taking pictures, especially with food.

  5. looks like such a fun event! and the shot of that photographer using light from a handphone to light up the food to take photo. haha! that's what we always do during food tasting! cover the light with a thin ply of tissue to disperse the harsh light too!

  6. What a fun event to attend! Photography will always interest me. Thanks for sharing your experience, no doubt you had a great time. Those are all beautiful food shots.
