Foods and Beverages to avoid during pregnancy

Foods can affect
you and your baby’s health more than you realise. Certain foods if not cooked or
prepared properly can be associated with illness .
For a safer
pregnancy,it would be advisable to avoid the following food and beverages:
1. Unpasteurised
milk, soft cheese eg Blue, Brie, feta and carmembert (Hard cheeses and processed
cottage cheese are safe).
2. Raw salad and
vegetables
3. Alcohol
4. Excessive
caffeine: Limit your intake of caffeinated beverages to no more than two cups
per day. Caffeine can be found in coffee, tea and some soft drinks
The main sources of caffeine are
coffee, tea, chocolate and cola. Each of these roughly has 300mg of caffeine:
§  One cup of brewed coffee has about
100mg caffeine
§  One cup of instant coffee has
about 100mg caffeine
§  One cup of tea has about 50mg
caffeine
§  One 50g chocolate bar has about
50mg caffeine
§  One can of cola has up to 80mg
caffeine
5. Raw or uncooked
meat, poultry, seafood such as raw oyster, cockles, sashimi, and raw or half
boiled eggs and liver pate.
